General features

INVAR 36 is a nickel-iron alloy with very low coefficient of thermal expansion in the temperature range below 400 ° F (200 ° C)。

SSC INVAR 36(UNS K93603) is an austenitic nickel-iron alloy containing 36% nickel。It has an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion in the range -418 ºF (-250 ºC) to 392 ºF (200 ºC)。It has excellent fatigue resistance and mechanical properties at low temperature。The high strength, ductility and toughness of the material, combined with its excellent manufacturing properties, make INVAR 36 the material of choice for customers who are demanding dimensional stability。

INVAR 36 shall not be used for hot or cold working, machining or forming。The manufacturing process is similar to austenitic stainless steel。For welding, filler wires similar to the expansion coefficient of alkali metals can be used for welding。

INVAR 36 is resistant to corrosion in dry, room temperature environments. In wet environments, the material surface will rust。
